PITTSBURGH -- In front of a record-setting crowd of over 300,000 spectators in Pittsburgh, the first Miami Hurricane selected was three-year starter Francis Mauigoa.

The 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive tackle, picked by the New York Giants in the first round (10th overall), was draped in a Ula Fala necklace and sunglasses at Acrisure Stadium on Thursday night.  Mauigoa is excited to protect his new quarterback, Jaxon Dart, and block for running back Cam Skattebo.

“I’m ready to die for you,” Mauigoa said on stage in a live televised interview.  “It’s a dream come true… to block for Jaxson and open holes for a running back that will run someone over.”

Mauioga, a first-team All-American, is a native of American Samoa who started every game of his career at right tackle for Miami and will now live in New York with his brother, linebacker Francisco, also a Miami alum, who was selected by the Jets in last year’s draft.  The Giants also selected Ohio State edge Arvell Reese fourth overall, and the two played against each other in the College Football Playoff last season.

“I’m excited to play with this guy.  When I was studying him for the Cotton Bowl, he was one hell of a beast.”Mauigoa, who became the first Miami offensive lineman taken in the first round since 2015, allowed just one sack in 205 true pass set snaps according to Pro Football Focus (93.7%), which ranked second among all NFL Draft-eligible tackles. He was an all-conference honoree in all three seasons – earning second-team honors in 2024 and honorable mention recognition in 2023 – and was a 2023 Freshman All-America after a dominant rookie campaign.

Mauigoa became the 67th first-round pick in Miami Hurricanes history.
